A pink or purple variation of garnet
Rhodolite is a gemstone with a rose-like appearance. Derived from the greek word “rhodon” which means rose-like, rhodolite is a variation of garnet with a very particular range of colorations. First found in North Carolina and still mined in that location, a high number of these stones have limited or no inclusions, making them a popular type of gemstone. They have since been found in Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania, Brazil, India, and Sri Lanka. It is considered a fourth order gemstone, and can vary in coloring from a light red (rose colored) to a deeper purple coloring.
