A type of quartz with inclusions of rutile
Quartz that is rutilated contains inclusions of rutile, which appear as a bright gold color within the stone. These inclusions are sometimes also silver, copper, red or black in color and in certain cases may form a pattern that is highly sought after. Rutilated quartz has long been highly prized because of these inclusions, while the color and shape of the rutiliation will have a significant impact on what people most prize about the stone. The rutile is most often made of titanium oxide that interacted with the quartz at some point. The resulting needle-like crystals are very fine and often permanent inside the quartz.
