Textured
tex·tured | ˈteks-chərd
adjective
A surface that is not smooth
A textured surface is one that is not smooth. This can take a number of different forms depending on the style of the jewelry and the type of material that is being textured. Textured finishes can include a number of different techniques within modern jewelry, including hammering, sand-blasting, brushing, and more. Historically, textured finishes were done by hand, often with a hammer or other small jeweler’s instrument and required extremely careful attention to detail and established skill. Today, this is still the case, but there are also several machine-applied textured finishes for jewelry as well.
