Tapered Baguette

ta·pered ba·guette | ˈtā-pərd ba-ˈget

noun

A small gemstone, cut in a trapezoid shape with one end narrower than the opposite end

A tapered baguette is a type of cut for a gemstone that creates a trapezoidal shape with one end narrower than the other. These elongated diamonds are often small and will be shaped in such a way that all four ends are flat with two longer edges and two shorter edges, one of which is tapered to be smaller than the other. The tapered baguette uses the emerald cut for a more classical look, rather than the brilliant cut, and therefore has larger, flatter facets than the round alternative. The shape is slightly more difficult to cut than a traditional diamond type and therefore is less common than round alternatives.
