Montana Sapphire

mon·tana sap·phire | män-ˈta-nə sa-ˌfī(-ə)r

noun

A blue sapphire, primarily mined in the Yogo Gulch of Montana

Montana sapphires are specifically found in the Yogo Gulch of Montana and typically consist of blue sapphires that may also be named Yogo Sapphires, after their place of origin. There are several other types of precious gemstones found in the Yogo Gulch, but sapphires are among the most desirable and best known due to their high quality, vibrant color, and the ethical sourcing of stones that are mined in this region. Sapphires were first found in Montana 150 years ago and have been actively mined in the Yogo Gulch area for the last 100 years. Most sapphires in this region are pale green to blue-green and a very limited number are deep blue. These are highly sought after.
