Rosary

ro·sa·ry | ˈrō-zə-rē

noun

A string of beads used in counting prayers

Rosary as a term references both a set of Catholic prayers and the string of beads or knots used to count those prayers. When capitalized, it most often refers to the prayers themselves, and when not capitalized, it refers to the string of beads. A modern rosary is often composed of an image of the cross or a depiction of the crucifixion, attached to a long string of beads or knots that can be moved and counted while praying. Rosary beads can be made from any material, from wood or glass to semi-precious stones like amber and jet. Some famous rosaries have been made from precious metals and gems as well.
