A stone setting method that fits stones of uniform size into a channel to form a continuous strip
There are many different settings for gemstones and diamonds. The channel setting is an increasingly popular setting for accent diamonds in an engagement ring, though you also see channel set diamonds and other gemstones in many other pieces of jewelry. With a channel setting, the gemstones are placed in a channel that is flanked by two sides of jewelry pieces of precious metal. That metal can be silver, yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, or platinum. The groves in this channel keep the gemstones tightly secure. While channel settings don’t have to be straight lines, they do keep the gemstones or diamonds side by side. Channels settings on an engagement ring can be straight across the band, or encircle a center stone. Many women choose engagement rings with channel set accent diamonds or colored gemstones because of the flash of light and color they bring, as well as how they draw eyes to and complement the center stone.
