Tanzanite

tan·za·nite | ˈtan-zə-ˌnīt

noun

A semi-precious gemstone popular for its brilliance and known for its varying shades of violet ranging from deep, rich purple to lilac

Tanzanite is a semi-precious gemstone originally discovered and still mined exclusively in Tanzania. The stone is known for its particular brilliance and the varying shades of purple and violet it displays. Today, Tanzanite is still found in Tanzania and is used in a variety of applications. The stone can be heated to achieve the specific shade of purple/violet that is desired by the jeweler or owner of the stone. Typically, tanzanite will be faceted to use in jewelry settings, but in rare cases, flawless pieces of Tanzanite can be made into Cabochons because of the naturally occurring elements of the stone.
