Tension Setting

ten·sion set | ˈten(t)-shən set

noun

A jewelry setting that holds the gemstone in place by pressure rather than prongs, a bezel, or other mounting

Although the tension setting does not appear to have anything holding the diamond in place, the metal is spring-loaded to exert pressure onto the gemstone. Additionally, grooves may be etched into the metal, level with the girdle.
