Padparadscha Sapphire
pad·pa·rad·scha sap·phire | pad-pü-räj-ə sa-ˌfī(-ə)r
noun
A rare, peach colored variation of sapphire
Padparadscha Sapphires are a special type of gem that has a specific color mixing pink and orange. They are considered a medium between ruby and yellow sapphire coloring, and are found primarily in Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Madagascar. They are incredibly rare because of how few places are able to mine them and are sought after as a result, both for that rarity and because of the unique color of the resulting gem stone. The name of this type of sapphire is derived from the Sinhalese word for Lotus blossom, and the stones have been compared to sunsets and tropical fruits as well over the years.
