The most precious of white metals
Platinum is a silvery white metal. On the periodic table, platinum has an atomic number of 79. It is highly popular in jewelry making because it is dense but malleable, and is highly unreactive, with a silvery-white sheen to it that makes it ideal for settings. Sitting next to gold on the periodic table, it is precious. It is considered the strongest metal for holding diamonds due to its higher durability than gold, lasting three times longer than gold in application. Typically platinum is mixed with 5-10% alloy to make the metal denser. The metal is also hypoallergenic and is therefore used frequently for those with common metal allergies. It also never fades in color and does not suffer from oxidation that silver and other semi-precious metals do.
