Pear Cut

pear cut | ˈper kət

noun

A gemstone cut with a rounded, oval shape that comes to a point at one end

Pear cut diamonds, also known as teardrop diamonds consist of 58 facets with a typical brilliant style cut. The cut is a vintage design that has been used for decades to combine the best elements of the round cut and the marquise cut. The result is a flowing appearance and teardrop shape that can be used in a number of different settings effectively. The optimal ratio of width to height is 1.50, and the symmetry of the stone is important along with the placement of inclusions. As a result, it can be difficult to find a pear-cut diamond that meets all the right criteria. They are highly sought after as a result, even if they are not as common as brilliant cut diamonds.
