split ring | ˈsplit riŋ
noun
A small base metal finding, resembling a key-ring
A split ring is a type of metal ring that has been wound in such a way that there are two distinct ends. The two full turns within the split ring allow for things to be slid onto the ring in the same manner as a key ring. These findings are composed of wire that has been spiraled in such a way that other types of rings, charms, other items can be attached to them, where they dangle as a key would on a keychain. Unlike traditional key chains, however, split rings are designed to be secured in such a way that nothing can slide free or break loose of the wire loop easily.
