Soldering

sol·der·ing | ˈsä-dər-riŋ

verb

A technique used in making and repairing jewelry whereby two pieces of metal are joined by applying molten metal, which has a lower melting point than the two metals being joined

Soldering is a special technique commonly used in the production and repair of jewelry. It involves melting alloys or metals that have a lower melting point than the two metals being joined together and using the resulting “solder” to safely and securely combine those two pieces. This application of molten metal is most commonly used when the two pieces have been cast separately from one another or if there is a repair needed in an older or worn piece of jewelry. It may also be used to join together a wedding set or two separate types of metal that cannot otherwise be joined due to variable melting points.
