A decorative pattern in the form of interlaced and crossed straight bands resembling straps

Strapwork refers to any of a number of different applications of decorative patterns that feature interlaced or crossed straight bands. The resulting bands resemble straps and can be worked into a variety of different applications. The bands can be curved or straight, and are often applied to types of jewelry that benefit from that type of pattern. They were popularized in the 16th century in enameled jewelry. There are several prominent examples in well-documented Renaissance jewelry that use the strapwork pattern to great effect.
